At the age of seventeen, Erika is a twelfth-grade student at St. Joseph Catholic High School. She has been playing hockey since 2014. Erika played ringette from ages 3 to 9 but fell in love with the game of hockey. Erika has a 95% overall average and aspires to go to university for health sciences. If given the opportunity Erika aspires to continue her hockey career through university. In 2019, Erika was named MVP of her school hockey team, won the Female Athlete of the Year award and was named captain of her U15 hockey team. She is a part of her school’s Athletic Council and many varsity sports teams, including hockey, football and volleyball. In addition, Erika is a volunteer with the Ottawa Hospital and helped in the COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Erika is 5’10” and has been playing defence for most of her playing career until last season when she made the transition to forward as a result of her strong offensive abilities. Erika puts 110% effort into every shift, practice, game and all aspects of life. The strongest element of Erika’s game is her hockey sense. She plays heads-up hockey and loves making creative plays. Erika uses her anticipation skills and active stick to break apart the opponent’s plays in all zones. Erika uses her size, speed and power to win battles in all areas of the ice, playing a strong 200-foot game. Many former coaches of Erika’s have made comments on how coachable of a player she is, and is always being eager to learn. Erika’s commitment as an athlete and desire to develop herself and the team led her to be awarded the Sportsmanship Award in the 2021-22 season. Her positive attitude, vision of the ice and strong physical performance helps Erika to be a leader on and off the ice.
