Rideau St Lawrence (RSL) Thunder Girls Hockey Association was established in 1998 and now administers a competitive Tier 1/Tier 1A female hockey programme dedicated to developing athletes to the best that they can perform both as a team and as individuals. With principle home arenas in the townships of Edwardsburgh & Cardinal and North Grenville, RSL offers a high performance hockey experience to those girls from the more rural communities in the southern part of Eastern Ontario. Our values include fairness, transparency, diversity of voice, and an ongoing motivation to improve.
RSLGHA currently ices two teams, one U18AA (Midget) and a Senior A team, which is an open age category providing competitive hockey opportunity for young women in their 20s and 30s. All but the Senior team play regular season hockey in Divisions governed by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association - Eastern (OWHA) and each attends 4 or 5 tournaments a season in Ontario and northern New York state. At the U18AA age group tournaments are selected based on the attendance of university coaches and scouts.
RSL would dearly love to restart our Peewee program or teams at other age groups if the right coach and core group of players became available.
Tier 1 hockey is a large commitment, both in time and money, and all coaches undergo a selection process in front of a dedicated Executive Board. Each team is allocated between 110-120 hours of home ice per season and play in the region of 50-60 games over the course of 8 months. We have formed an affiliation with Kingston Jr Ice Wolves and for the player with the right skill sets and motivation have thereby formed a viable development path through Tier 1 hockey to the Provincial Women's Hockey League. Extracurricular development is achieved through the use of the PEP (Power Edge Pro) system and goalie specific technical training. RSL represents high performance girls’ hockey and accepts female players who are good team mates and recognise that practices and preparation are compulsory if skills are to be developed and success achieved. Families who commit to our program understand the dedication required and that ice time is earned and for a variety of reasons, is not always equal.
Our end goal is to prepare our players to play hockey at the post secondary level; our alumni of successful NCAA, USport (ex-CIS), and ACHA hockey players continues to grow year over year.
Although tryouts normally take place in the Spring (late April and early May) RSL welcomes enquiries from ambitious young female hockey players at any time. Please contact President, Ray Snook, on either 613-219-1213 or via
