Breanna Byrnes is a defenseman with the Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder U18AA team. She is currently 5’2”. Breanna is in the eleventh grade, graduating in 2023, at South Grenville District High School and has achieved honour roll each year. At school, Breanna enjoys studying English for reading and writing, her goal is to attend university to major in English and become a teacher. Her greatest academic achievement was being named Valedictorian for her grade 8 graduating class. Breanna has been involved in many volunteer experiences inside and outside of school. In 2019, she spent 100 hours volunteering with Play it Kids Sports Camp. During the summers, Breanna works for Pure Stride Power Skating as an instructor to help hockey players improve their skating and skills. Breanna began playing hockey at the age of four for the Timbits team in her hometown, she played boys competitive rep from the age of eight to fourteen. At age fourteen, Breanna switched from boy’s hockey to try out for Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder. She has since played for the team. Breanna’s most memorable year was her 2019/2020 hockey season. Her team placed second in the league and won playdowns advancing to provincials that was unfortunately canceled due to COVID. Breanna’s strengths include her skating stride, mental game, body positioning, and shot. She is hardworking, coachable, and dedicated. Breanna is always eager to gain more knowledge of systems, new roles/assignments, and any advice to improve her hockey game.
